Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Services

Eligibility for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Services can be established either by income or by being defined as a dislocated worker. Please note that new orientations for the following month will be posted on the 21st of each month.  So if you see that all orientations are full, you can find new ones after the 21st.  If you already scheduled yourself for an orientation in June (prior to May 21st) that registration is still good.

In order to register for an Orientation for WIA Services, you must meet one of the following two sets of conditions.

Conditions #1
OR
Conditions #2

You are 18 or over
and
You are a resident of Mecklenburg County or have been laid off by a Mecklenburg County employer
and
You are authorized to work in the U.S.
and
You are receiving unemployment insurance or have exhausted your unemployment insurance benefits in the last year
and
You are actively seeking employment
and
able to document your Work Search efforts to date.

You are also potentially eligible if
You are ineligible for unemployment insurance solely because you have been laid off from a church or non-profit organization
or
You have been permanently laid off
or
have received a notice of termination of lay-off and are unlikely to return to your previous employment
or
Your company has closed
or
you have been notified of plant closure
or
You were self-employed but are now unemployed because of general economic conditions/natural disaster
and
You are actively seeking employment and able to document your Work Search efforts to date.

 

You are 18 or over
and
You are a resident of Mecklenburg County
and
You are authorized to work in the U.S.
and
You are receiving TANF, SSI or Food Stamp Assistance
or
Your previous six-month household income meets income guidelines
or
You are a displaced homemaker
or
You are homeless or reside in temporary/transitional housing
and
You are actively seeking employment and
are able to document your Work Search efforts to date.
     

If your circumstances meet the basic eligibility requirements, please proceed to register for a WIA Orientation at the JobLink of your choice. You may register at one JobLink only and will be assigned a “registration number”. You will receive a reminder of your scheduled orientation by email two days in advance. If you are unable to attend, please notify the JobLink where you are scheduled to attend your WIA Orientation.

Please be aware that Orientations beginning in April/May/June are for preparation for training with start dates after July 1, 2010.
